Plastic Waste EPR (Extended Producer Responsibility) under PWM Rules 2016 as amended 2022. If your business uses plastic packaging of any kind — bottles, films, sachets, MLP packaging, or carry bags — you are required to register on the CPCB EPR portal, set annual collection targets, and fulfil them. We have done 2,000+ of these registrations.
Plastic Waste EPR — What It Means in Practice
The Plastic Waste Management Rules 2016 — significantly tightened by the 2022 amendment — make it mandatory for any business that introduces plastic packaging into the Indian market to be accountable for its collection and recycling. This is enforced through the CPCB EPR portal, where you register as a PIBO (Producer/Importer/Brand Owner), declare how much plastic you use annually, commit to a collection target, and then prove you met it through certified plastic waste processors or Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs).
Governed by the Plastic Waste Management (PWM) Rules 2016 (amended 2022), EPR requires businesses to register on the CPCB EPR portal, set annual collection targets, and demonstrate fulfilment through certified plastic waste processors (PWPs) or Producer Responsibility Organisations (PROs).
Non-compliance attracts penalties up to ₹1 crore and can lead to suspension of business operations.
