What is WPC Approval?
WPC (Wireless Planning & Coordination) Wing sits under the Department of Telecommunications and controls which wireless devices can legally operate on Indian spectrum. Every device that communicates wirelessly — WiFi, Bluetooth, ZigBee, LoRa, NFC, LTE — uses government-allocated radio frequencies. You need permission to use them commercially.
In practice, this means any wireless product you want to import or sell in India needs an Equipment Type Approval (ETA) from the WPC Wing before you bring in even your first unit. This is a separate requirement from BIS CRS — many importers need both. Customs checks for the ETA number, and shipments without it are held or returned.
